The BT 700 grand depart will occur once yearly from St. Jacobs, Ontario. The date for the 2022 event is Sunday June 19th at 8:00am. The event is open to those who want to 'race' or 'tour' the route. There is also the option for the Grand Depart to attempt the BT XL challenge where riders can complete both the BT 700 and GNR routes (the BT 700 will occur first followed by the GNR). Riders can also take on the BT 700 Light route during this time. More details can be found on the bikepacking.com event site.
From aid stations to cementing new cycling friends, there are many benefits to taking part in a bikepacking grand depart. Fill out the form below and I will add you to the start list. Note: If you sign up for the grand depart but decide you cannot attend please let me know so I can remove your name from the start list.
It is not a race or paid official event. Each rider assumes complete responsibility for their own safety. Riders may ride alone, in pairs, or small groups, it is entirely up to them.
There will also be a planned get-together in St. Jacob's the night before the big send-off.
For the Grand Depart, the BT 700 and GNR routes will be up on Trackleaders for anyone interested in having their dot-watched. It is supported by SPOT and Garmin InReach devices. (The use of Trackleaders is not required to ride this route). Here is the link to the form to register your device: https://form.jotform.com/trackleaders/bt700-22
For the 2022 Grand Depart, the BT 700 is partnering with Rally Beer which riders will have the opportunity to sample along the route. There is no better way to wash down those butter tarts.
